CBI director Ranjit Sinha met with the senior officials in the Prime Minister's office (PMO) on quite a few occasions after the March 6 meeting between him and the law minister Ashwani Kumar, sources have told Hindustan Times.

The meetings between Sinha and the senior PMO officials continued after the submission of his first affidavit in the Supreme Court on April 26, wherein he accepted that the draft of coal block allocation probe status report was shared with the union law minister.

The CBI director filed an affidavit on Monday, on the instructions of the SC, to state what changes were made in the coal probe status report after meetings with the PMO and coal ministry joint secretaries and the law minister.

The CBI director has given details about his meeting with the law minister in the latest affidavit. The affidavit states that Sinha met the law minister along with CBI's counsel Harin Rawal and attorney general G Vahanavti.

He has also stated that on the same day joint secretary Shatrughana Singh in the PMO and joint secretary AK Bhalla of the coal ministry met CBI joint director OP Galhotra. The meeting took place in the chamber of Galhotra and it was held at the request of Singh.

Sources have told HT that for the March 6 meeting between the CBI director and law minister, the message came from the agency's counsel in the SC, the additional solicitor general Harin Rawal, who was informed by the attorney general. The attorney general had in turn got the message from the office of the law minister.

"We have told the SC in our affidavit everything that was required from us," said a senior CBI official when asked about the director's meetings with the PMO officials.
