In a latest development in the investigations regarding irregularities during the Commonwealth Games (CWG), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has recovered a compact disc that was enclosed with an anonymous ‘blackmail letter’ sent to CWG Organising Committee (OC)’s former chief Suresh Kalmadi.

A CBI source said the CD “contained details of alleged irregularities done by Kalmadi in lieu of monetary benefits”. The source added, “We are looking into the details of the allegations.” On Monday, the CBI called in three members of Kalmadi’s secretarial staff and grilled them about the letter’s sender.

The CBI asked them about the location of the envelope, which is still missing, in which the letter had arrived at Kalmadi’s premise. The bureau wants to determine whether the letter was posted or came by a courier.

The CD, found in a partially damaged condition, will be sent for a forensic analysis along with the letter.

Last week on Friday, the CBI had recovered the letter during its search at Kalmadi’s official and residential premises located in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune. The letter’s author had demanded R4 crore in exchange for not making the contents of an enclosed CD public that could expose his alleged irregularities. The CBI is probing the role of Kalmadi in irregularities related to the Queens Baton Relay in London.
