CBI sends SMSes asking people to report bribes

The CBI has sought the help of mobile phone service providers asking them to send SMSes highlighting the avenues through which people can lodge their complaints about graft.

As part of its efforts to fight corruption, the CBI has sought the help of mobile phone service providers asking them to send SMSes highlighting the avenues through which people can lodge their complaints about graft.

The SMSes are being sent to various subscribers of Idea, Airtel, Vodafone, Aircel and BSNL on behalf of the Anti Corruption Unit of the agency giving phone details and mobile numbers of the unit on which one could call and report any incident of corruption.

"If a Central/Delhi Govt/PSU/Bank employee demands bribe for any official work in Delhi, plz contact SP CBI at 24361535/3541/2494 or 9968081216/17/18" the SMS says.

"We want that the maximum number of people get our message and what is a better way than sending it out on mobiles," a CBI official said.

He said the main objective of it was to tell people that CBI is not inaccessible and also to involve public in fighting corruption.
