CBSE puts answer scripts of toppers on its website

Acing the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII Physics paper this year may have seemed impossible to many, but four students - including one from the Capital - did just that.

How they managed to score a perfect 100 is now no longer a secret as the CBSE has posted one answer script each of the Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Accountancy, Business Studies, and Mathematics papers on its website.

The Board has put up answer scripts with full marks in the Class X Mathematics, Science and Social Science exams this year. This move comes in the wake of CBSE chairman Ashok Ganguly's announcement in February that students should have access to ideal samples so as to emulate the correct method of answering questions.

The board has deliberately not revealed the names of the toppers. "Providing the name of the candidate, whose answer script has been uploaded, will serve no purpose. The idea is not to create regional bias, but to help those who are preparing for the exam next year," said M.C. Sharma, controller of examinations, CBSE.

Though close to 350 students aced the Class XII Mathematics paper, the website only shows one sample. Elaborating on the method adopted to narrow down to just one from hundreds Ganguly said: "The answer scripts were shown to a panel of experts who then compared them on the basis of a number of criteria, including neatness and language."

However, the board has no plans of uploading language papers. "Language answers are subjective in nature as each student has his/her own style of writing. We will avoid posting these scripts because there are chances that what we like will not be appreciated by everyone," added Sharma.
