Celebrations toned down for Dec 31

This New Year eve, most Delhites have decided to stay home. Several residents welfare associations (RWAs), clubs and five-star hotels have also called off their parties in wake of the Mumbai terror attack.

The Vasant Vihar RWA has urged residents to stay away from celebrations. RWAs in Safdarjung Enclave, Greater Kailash, Rajouri Garden, Patparganj, Rohini, etc. have also called off celebrations. “It’s the mood and not security concerns that is restraining us,” said Rajiv Karkria, GK-I RWA president.

Prominent hotels like Le Meridian in Connaught Place have cancelled the New Year gala. “The main gala has been called off. The restaurants in the hotel, however, will have themes,” said Akhil Mathur, director, Marketing Communications.

Taj Group of Hotels has designed a “peace tree” for revelers to hang peace messages. “We are not hosting Christmas parties endorsed by the hotel. (But) People may come and hold their private parties,” said Sanjuktaa Roy, a Taj spokesperson in Delhi.

Hotel The Lalits has not invited international entertainers for this New Year. "No party in our banquet, but the restaurants will have celebrations,” said Anjali Chatterjee, general manager, Marketing.
