His reported intentions were noble. But not so much his means.

The Delhi Police on Thursday arrested a 38-year-old man who allegedly started snatching chains to fund the election of his brother who is contesting the upcoming municipal polls on the ticket of a national party.

Karnail Singh, a resident of Andha Mugal in north Delhi, who himself contested the MCD elections in 2007 on the ticket of a political party, was arrested along with his associate from Karol Bagh area in central Delhi.

"An anti-snatching picket was deployed at Saraswati Marg- Padam Singh Road crossing. The cops on duty signaled two bike-borne men to stop but they took a U-turn instead to escape the police. But they could not control the motorcycle and they fell," DC Srivastava, additional CP (central) said.

Singh, who was riding the bike, allegedly took out a country-made pistol and tried to aim towards the police. During interrogation they admitted to their involvement in over 60 cases of snatching, the officer added. Two jewellers who used to buy stolen goods from Karnail have also been arrested.

"Singh claimed that he needed money for his brother's election campaign," Aslam Khan, additional DCP (central) said.
