The new areas in the constituency include Adarsh Nagar, Model Town, Wazirpur and Shakur Basti.

Congress MP Kapil Sibal will seek re-election from the prestigious seat while MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta is eyeing at the votes of the sizable Vaishya community to sail through the polls.

Sibal, who introduced battery-operated buses in the narrow lanes of Chandini Chowk after the Delhi High Court banned cycle rickshaws in the area, expressed optimism that the people of the constituency will re-elect him.

“There is no anti-incumbency in Chandni Chowk. A lot of work has been done. There are lots of work that are in the pipeline like Jama Masjid Redevelopment Plan project. I am sure people will vote me again,” Sibal told PTI.

Sibal said plans have already been prepared and they are now being examined by the Urban Arts Commission.

Mapping of the area through high-resolution, long-distance cameras has been completed. It would help track whether anyone has done additional construction, Sibal said.
