Before biting into the sweets you have got this Diwali, check its quality. A large quantity of sweets, made of adulterated Khoya, is being sold at various shops in the city.

While police claim to have seized about 125 quintals of adulterated Khoya from manufacturers and wholesalers this Diwali, sources confirm that a large quantity has reached retailers and sweets manufacturers.

According to police, a number of manufacturing units have come up in villages and towns in the district. Products manufactured here are sold in Delhi, Noida, Meerut, Bulandshahr and other neighbouring towns. Adulterated khoya is sold at less than half the price of pure khoya.

“Acting on a tip-off, we raided several manufacturing units and seized a large quantity of adulterated khoya. Sweets made here will be supplied to shops in Ghaziabad as well as Delhi,” said SSP Deepak Ratan.

District health department, too, raided several commercial establishments and seized adulterated khoya. According to chief medical officer Dr Subodh Kumar Jindal, 30 samples have been sent to the state laboratory in Lucknow. Health teams also destroyed stale or adulterated khoya.
