A workshop on child protection and rights was held for officials of the labour, education, social welfare and health departments in Gurgaon recently. Shakti Vahini, a NGO, which runs CHILDLINE (helpline number 1098) in Gurgaon, had organised the workshop in collaboration with National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development.

The NGO had organised a similar workshop for officials of the Gurgaon Police last month.

"Nearly 80 participants from different departments of the district administration participated in the programme," said Subir Roy, director of Shakti Vahini. The health department will extend medical support for children in need of care and protection. It is working closely on the issue of female foeticide, said Dr Rekha Yadav, deputy civil surgeon of district health department.
