A day after allegations of drugging, rape and forced incest of three siblings by their school cab driver shocked the city, the Delhi police arrested two of the four suspects — all of whom are students of Class IX and were studying in the same school as the victimised boys.
“Both (the two juveniles caught on Saturday) come from middle-class families and are students of Class IX at the same school,” said Jaspal Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central).
According to the police, the crime that spanned 18 long months was carried out at the house of one of the two juveniles held on Saturday.
The driver, Lalit Ratawal (38), was the first to be held, on Friday, on charges of drugging, raping and forcing the three siblings from central Delhi’s Prasad Nagar to indulge in incest.
A city court sent the accused to two days of police custody but not before criticising the force for slackness in registering a case and failing to catch the other two juvenile suspects.
The court told the police to produce the remaining juvenile suspects by Monday. The accused have been identified and they will be caught soon, the police said.
The police also faced a tough time protecting Ratawal from the ire of the friends and relatives of the victims. The prime suspect was beaten up while he was being taken to court.
“Locals and family members stopped us from taking the accused to court. They pelted the school van with stones, badly damaging it. We had to take him back to the police station and let the situation cool down,” said a senior police officer. The police will question the school authorities on Monday.
