Protests and demonstrations against the rape of a 23-year-old gangrape victim were the order of the day in the Capital on Tuesday.

While the Art of Living-North Delhi unit organised a candle-light march at India Gate on Tuesday evening to show support for the girl, students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) stopped traffic at the Munirka junction to demand justice for the gangrape victim.

Hundreds of students and people from the area blocked the road from 11am to 2pm, shouting slogans and carrying placards.

"The JNU Students' Union, in coordination with women's organisations and several concerned citizens of Delhi, has decided to continue the struggle for a safe Delhi for women. Two of the culprits are yet to be arrested even as the 23-year-old victim is fighting for life. The lack of safety for women in Delhi is based in systemic apathy of the Delhi Police, home ministry and the Delhi CM towards crimes against women. We want the criminal justice system to provide immediate justice to the victim. But we also demand that several policy level steps be taken to improve the Capital's safety situation," said JNUSU president V Lenin Kumar.

The students' union will also assemble at India Gate on Wednesday evening to demand justice for the rape victim and raise demands for a safer city.
