A mall in Karol Bagh was sealed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday. MCD officials said the mall is on Gurudwara Road, which is not notified for carrying out commercial activities.
"We have been running our shop in this mall for the past six years and suddenly they say this is not a commercial area. Karol Bagh comes under the Special Area and hence the MCD can't seal shops here for carrying out commercial activities," said a shopkeeper.
The mall was sealed at 9.30am on Wednesday. Most shops in this mall sell jewellery. According to sources, the action was taken on the directions of the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee that looks into matters related to sealing of unauthorised commercial establishments.
"The main road is notified as a commercial street but the mall is inside the colony, which is residential and hence commercial activities are not allowed," said a senior MCD official.
