A day after the Hindustan Times reported how tainted officials were being given plum and sensitive posts in the three newly-formed municipal corporations, the commissioners of the three civic bodies have assured that no official having any departmental or any other enquiry pending against him would be posted on sensitive positions.

There were allegations against the directorate of local bodies that it was giving plum postings to tainted officials in gross violation of the policy.

"Despite staff crunch, we would be keeping tainted officials at bay. Even if there's a departmental enquiry against anyone, he wouldn't be given any important posting," said Manish Gupta, commissioner, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) Former chairman of the unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Jagdish Mamgain, had claimed that employees across the three civic bodies against whom 5,200 criminal and corruption cases are pending are holding important posts.

"As per the policy, a nod from the chief vigilance commissioner is necessary before posting officials to any sensitive department," Mamgain had told HT on Monday.

"For the newly-formed corporations, it is necessary that their bureaucracy should be clean and efficient. Any tainted official would not be appointed to a sensitive department," said PK Gupta, commissioner, North Delhi Municipal Corporation.

East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) commissioner SS Yadav has said tainted officers would be posted to the sanitation and garbage collection departments.
