Restaurants and bars that offer hookahs in posh south Delhi markets may soon be forced to shut shop. Taking a stand against the 'form of smoking', the South Corporation has said providing hookah was illegal.
Currently, restaurants and bars take permission only for food and drinks, but slip in hookahs on the menu without taking permission.
"Smoking cigarettes is covered under a policy, but hookahs are not. They promote smoking and we will crack down on them, starting with college areas," said Subhash Arya, leader of the House, South Corporation.
More than 100 places serve hookahs in south Delhi.
