Several vehicles were damaged, a few shops were set ablaze and stone-pelting between two groups ensued after a boy and girl belonging to two different religious communities eloped in north Delhi's Sadar Bazar area on Monday, police said.
"The incident occurred on Monday evening at the Kasabpura area in Sadar Bazar. Initially, it was between two families, whose children had eloped on Sunday night," said a senior police officer.
Police said the minor verbal spat between the two families turned into a full-fledged clash in a mere 30 minutes as the group on either side swelled and stone-pelting commenced.
"The two groups hurled stones and also burled a few shops in the area. A few persons got injured. We had to resort to lathicharge and were able to diffuse the situation in about half an hour," the officer added.
