A 20-year-old Class 12 student and her accomplice were arrested by the Delhi Police for their alleged involvement in a Bihar-based network of arms smugglers.
Police claimed the group acquired and sold semi-automatic weapons and ammunition to criminal in the NCR.
“The duo has been identified as Zainab Nisha and Riyaz Mohammed (42),: said Shibesh Singh, additional deputy commissioner of police (special cell). “They were caught red-handed from a restaurant in Brijpuri area (in northeast Delhi) on Tuesday evening.”
A recent recruit into the network, Zainab is pursuing Class 12 through the Open School, while Riyaz is a full-time operative of the gang, police said.
“Zainab and Riyaz were carrying four semi-automatic pistols of .32 bore in cardboard boxes — normally shoe boxes — concealed in plastic bags,” said senior police officer. “The girl acts as a marketing executive – basically looking for prospective clients among criminals in Delhi and the NCR. Riyaz procures the arms.”
Riyaz reportedly confessed to receiving the arms and ammunition from his brother-in-law, who in turn used to source them from Bihar and Jharkhand.
