Taking a dig at the three BJP-controlled corporations in the city, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday stated that commuting on roads in the Walled City, especially roads such as Qutub Road, has become impossible due to large potholes.

Dikshit was initiating work on the reconstruction of six roads under Ballimaran constituency at Qutub Road in the presence of Union telecom minister Kapil Sibal, Delhi PWD minister Raj Kumar Chauhan and Delhi power minister Haroon Yusuf.

She said the three civic bodies were in a habit of sleeping over pressing issues, due to which the condition of roads has deteriorated and the infrastructure has totally collapsed. "The callousness of north corporation resulted in pitched darkness over the streets of north Delhi. People at large were at the risk of anti-social and anti-national activities," she said. According to her, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation was supposed to make a payment of just Rs 44 crore as power bill for streetlights.

Union minister Kapil Sibal appreciated the decision of acquiring 60ft wide roads from the corporations by the Delhi government and appreciated Dikshit. "People across the world talk of the development taken place in Delhi but this is not visible to a political party in Delhi," Sibal said.

Sibal's comment incurs BJP wrath
New Delhi: BJP Delhi president Vijay Goel has strongly reacted to Union minister Kapil Sibal's comment that "the erstwhile MCD is the most corrupt institution."

"It would be better if Sibal eradicated corruption from the Delhi government. He should go through the reports of the Shunglu Committee on CWG, reports of CAG, PAC and the Lokayukta, in which the Delhi government were found guilty of corruption," Goel said.
