For 131 families of Subhash Park Extension near Shahdara, East Delhi, their petition to the Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit and PWD Minister has borne fruit.
Dikshit has asked the PWD to explore new options to spare the 131 houses that fall in the way of a proposed link road. The 200-metre long missing link between Road No. 66 (from Shyam Lal College in Shahdara) and Road No. 67 (from Seelampur area) cannot be constructed without demolishing the 131 houses.
“We are looking at either an underpass or a flyover,” Delhi PWD minister Rajkumar said.
PWD officials said they had completed the acquisition process. PWD officials said they had also sent notices to the affected families to vacate the properties within a week.
Residents, however, argue that the government was offering them a meagre compensation of Rs 2,973 per square metre while the circle rate was Rs 17,000 per sq. metre.
“We won’t get a house in this meagre amount. We have been living here for 50 years. We want either an adequate compensation or houses of the same size elsewhere in the Capital,” said a resident.
