CM is shielding tainted officer, claims opposition
Dikshit wrote to home ministry, asking to scrap CBI inquiry, leader alleges.
Delhi Chief Minister came under severe attack on Wednesday with the Opposition accusing her of shielding a ‘corrupt official.
BJP MLA Karan Singh Tanwar alleged that Sheila Dikshit had been trying to shield a corrupt officer who was earlier posted in the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). Tanwar claimed that even as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had sought permission for initiating inquiry against the officer in irregularities related to projects executed during the Commonwealth Games, the chief minister wrote a letter to the home minister, saying that the inquiry should not be conducted.
“I can prove that the chief minister is trying to shield the officer. It is shameful that she is doing something of this nature. Whenever we try to raise issues pertaining to corruption, we are thrown out of the Assembly. This is not right, the speaker should be impartial,” said Tanwar. Tanwar was asked to leave the Assembly by the Speaker for taking up this issue. The Speaker claimed that he had not taken permission to speak on the subject.
The BJP MLAs said that Tanwar should have been given the opportunity to raise the issue. “Even as the PM and senior leaders of Congress have been stating that no one would be spared in connection with corruption, at the same time, the chief minister said no to a CBI enquiry against a tainted officer,” said VK Malhotra, leader of opposition.
