An Army colonel — posted at Army College of Medicine as Registrar — has been arrested on charges of molesting a 32-year-old woman Army doctor.
The incident took place in the wee hours of Friday, on Sardar Patel Marg in Chanakyapuri.
The woman had to reportedly jump out of the colonel’s car to save herself. A couple who were passing by called the police when they saw the woman fall on the road and cry for help.
Police said the accused, identified as Surinder Yadav (53), was drunk at the time of the incident. The woman reportedly knew him well, as they had first met in Jammu and Kashmir five years ago.
“The woman is also an Army doctor based in Delhi. Yadav invited her for dinner and picked her up around 11.45 p.m. on Thursday. There was one more person in the car,” said a senior police officer.
Yadav drove to Sardar Patel Marg and stopped his car at an isolated spot, police said.
“The woman told us that Yadav started consuming liquor in the car along with his friend. He then misbehaved with her and even beat her up when she protested. The victim had bite marks on her face. She jumped out of the car to save herself,” said the officer.
After his arrest, Yadav was granted bail. Army sources said an inquiry was ordered into the case after the victim filed a complaint.
