Some metro stations in Delhi may soon be identified with the names of the companies or their brands.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will soon auction the rights to name the stations. The corporation has shortlisted nine metro stations where the companies will be able to have their names as metro stations for a price. Officials said if they get a good response, more stations will be brought under the scheme.

The DMRC has initially selected NCR stations - Noida City Centre, Golf Course, Botanical Garden and Sector-18 in Noida, Vaishali in Ghaziabad and Huda City Centre, IFFCO Chowk, MG Road and Guru Dronacharya metro stations in Gurgaon - for the scheme.

Rapid Metro in Gurgaon is already into this practice: Micromax Moulsari Avenue station, Indusind Bank Cybercity station, and Vodafone Belvedere Tower station.

“The bidder will get the right to prefix or suffix the brand name with the name of the station. This way the company will be able to make the brand popular and local identity of the station will also remain. The bidder will also get the exclusive advertising rights for that station,” a senior DMRC official said.

The DMRC hopes to make good money by auctioning the stations naming rights. Corporates will get an advertisement space of 500 square metres at the station to advertise their brands. The colour scheme within the station will also be determined by the company to go with its brands.
