The state of education in North Delhi Municipal Corporation (North DMC) is in shambles—literally.

Even after being in existence for around three months, the corporation, which claims its first priority is to improve its school, has not been able to fix computers in schools.

As per the audit by the education committee of the north corporation, around 1,400 computers out of 2,641 computers in its schools are not working. Not only this, there are around 200 schools where not even a single computer is working.

"The education committee has no plans to get these computers fixed. As a result, the computer education in our schools has come to a halt," said a senior officer of education department, north civic body.

The North DMC has around 786 computers under six zones which fall under its jurisdiction. "In city zone, out of 219 computers, 153 are not working. The situation is no better in Paharganj zone where out of 202, around 150 computers are not working," the officer added.

There is also shortage of teaching staff for computers as most of the teachers are not trained to teach the subject.

In Karol Bagh Zone, out of 354 computers, around 150 are not working and in civil lines zone, where schools have 750 computers, only 350 are in working condition.

"These computers could have been fixed during the summer vacation but nobody bothered. So, kids are losing on computer education," the officer added.
