The opposition Congress of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday alleged that the BJP-led civic body has been indulging in "pick and choose policy".
Leader of Opposition Jai Kishen Sharma said by doing so, the civic body has been neglecting wards belonging to Congress councillors.
Sharma pointed out that despite the MCD planning to carry out work at ward number 129 and ward number 130, Dabri and Mangolpuri, respectively, Mayor Rajni Abbi did not allow it. Both wards belonged to Congress councillors.
Shouting slogans and carrying posters, Congress councillors disrupted the House meeting which had to be adjourned in a hurry. "The BJP is playing dirty politics by neglecting certain wards and promoting others," said Sharma.
Replying to the allegations, the mayor said she had to cancel the civic work because both wards are in unauthorised colonies. "The job of developing unauthorised colonies lie with the Delhi government's DSIIDC. Even BJP councillors have not been allowed by the Delhi government to spend money in such colonies," she said.
Abbi said that tenders for the civil work had already been invited by the DSIIDC, a development agency, and so MCD could not have invited tenders. "The Delhi government should allow MCD to develop unauthorised colonies," she added.
