Congress refused to comment on the the Supreme Court raising serious questions over how PJ Thomas could be appointed as CVC and continue in the post despite a pending corruption case against him.
"It is not for the Congress party to respond. Law Ministry and other departments of the government dealing with the issue will surely give a response. Government has been given two weeks time and it will respond to it in this time," party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told reporters at the AICC briefing.
The Supreme Court bench headed by chief justice SH Kapadia also wrly observed that Thomas as the Central Vigilance Commissioner will himself feel embarrassed due to the pending criminal case against him as in every case CBI will be dealing with him.
BJP had earlier strongly objected to P J Thomas' appointment as CVC.
The Congress spokesperson refused to say anything further on the matter when asked whether the SC observation vindicates BJP's stand on the matter.
The name of Thomas figures in the chargesheet filed in Kerala in a palmoleine import case.
