Cong likely to empower Sonia Gandhi to elect state president

A meeting of MPCC delegates and newly elected district Congress committee president has been convened tomorrow where a one line resolution authorising Congress President Sonia Gandhi to nominate state Congress and Mumbai unit chief is likely to be passed.

The meeting has been convened by Pradesh returning officer G S Charak at Tilak Bhavan tomorrow in Central Mumbai. The final decision is taken by high command regarding MPCC president, office bearer, state election committee member and AICC member.

The process would continue this time also, a party source said. The last day for filing nomination for MPCC president and other office bearer is tomorrow and therefore the meeting was convened to pass the resolution.

A meeting of senior party leader was held today where Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, MPCC president Manikrao Thackre, the city unit chief Kripa Shankar Singh, Union Minister for Heavy Industries Vilasrao Deshmukh, Union Minister of State for IT Gurudas Kamat, Revenue Minister Narayan Rane, former CM Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar, MPCC working president Jaywantrao Awale and Legislative Council Chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh were present.
