As the authorities in Goa probe the links of a right-wing Hindu group with the Diwali-eve Margao blast, the BJP on Tuesday demanded an "honest investigation" into the incident while Congress said it would not make "casual remarks" on the issue.

"Let me make it clear that BJP is in favour of an honest investigation into the blast," party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said in New Delhi.

Anyone "guilty should be punished and law be allowed to take its own course," he said when asked to comment on the statement of Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik that Hindu group Sanatan Saunstha was behind the blast.

A powerful blast had ripped through a busy street near the Grace church at Margao when explosive kept in a scooter went off at around 9.30 pm on October 16, leaving one member of the Saunstha dead and another person seriously injured.

Goa government has constituted a special investigating team to probe the incident and one man with alleged links to the group has been arrested. The Sausntha has strongly denied any involvement in the explosion.

Talking to media in New Delhi, Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said, "It is not possible to make casual remarks on the issue.

"If there is a charge of terrorism, it is a serious issue. Be assured that the investigating agency will look into it," he said.
