The Congress on Friday made it abundantly clear that it will go alone in the next Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal and warned Mamata Banerjee the repeat of her party's 2004 performance in case she decides to align with the BJP yet again.

"The loss will only be hers if she joins hands with BJP….as had happened in the past," said Shakeel Ahmed, Congress party's in-charge of West Bengal affairs. He recalled the Trinamool Congress had managed to get just one seat in 2004 Lok Sabha elections when she aligned with the BJP.

Ahmed then went on to remind Banerjee that her party's tally jumped to 19 in 2009 when she contested the Lok Sabha polls in alliance with the Congress.
