A 25-year-old resident of Outer Delhi’s Aman Vihar, who reportedly invested several lakhs in ‘conman’ Subhash Aggarwal’s firm, allegedly committed suicide after coming to know about Aggarwal’s arrest.
The police said the incident took place on Monday around half past three in the afternoon when Ashok Gupta was found unconscious by his family inside a room.
A bottle of poisonous substance was kept on a nearby table. He was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial hospital where he died during treatment and the police was informed.
“His family told us that he had invested several lakhs in Aggarwal’s firm but did not have any receipt for his investments,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.
Aggarwal has been arrested by the economic offences wing for defrauding people of crores of rupees. The police are trying to ascertain what led Gupta to commit suicide.
“We are trying to find out how much money he had invested. So far, we have not talked to his family as they are in shock,” added the officer.
The police have sent the body for a post mortem examination. No suicide note was found on Gupta.
