A Delhi Police constable committed suicide after allegedly murdering his wife in Model Town on Friday.

Som Pal Tomar (30) slit his 28-year-old wife Poonam’s throat and then electrocuted himself. The couple leaves behind a three-year old son, Aryan.

Tomar electrocuted himself by wrapping a live wire around his fingers.

He joined the Delhi Police more than 10 years ago and was posted at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

A native of Sisli Baghpat in UP, he lived in Police Lines, Model Town-II in northwest Delhi for the last three years. He married Poonam six years ago.

His nephew Sumit also stayed with the family. He was out when the incident occurred around 10 am.

DCP Northwest N.S. Bundela said, “The reasons are still not clear. We are investigating the matter and waiting for the autopsy report. During the preliminary investigation, we found the two used to fight frequently.”

The Tomars’ neighbours are still in shock over the whole incident. According to them, Tomar did not have any enemies. They said he and his wife used to get into minor tiffs occasionally.

“Everything was fine when I met him in the morning around 8:15 am. He was as cordial as ever and said he would meet me in the evening. I still cannot believe this happened in a span of two hours,” said a neighbour.

According to neighbours, Tomar told his son Aryan to play outside and then bolted the door from inside. Later, Aryan started banging the door to be let in. Hearing him the neighbours came out and called up the police. They also broke open the door around 10:30 am and saw blood all over the place.

Tomar’s body was found in the living room while his wife’s body was lying in the bathroom.

Neighbours added work pressure might be the reason behind the act, as he was not happy with his current posting.
