A 31-year-old constable posted in a police control room (PCR) van was beaten up allegedly by two youths when he tried to stop them from creating ruckus outside a CNG station in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj.

The duo also damaged the wireless set of another PCR constable when the latter tried to inform the local police about the matter. The arrested duo has been identified as Vaibhav and Saurabh Verma, residents of Mahalaxmi Apartments in Kishangarh.

Police said the incident took place around 1:20am outside a CNG station on Aruna Asaf Ali Marg in Vasant Kunj. The constable was identified as Ashok Kumar.

Kumar and his colleague constable Ram Kheladi were on night duty in the PCR van when they received a call on their wireless set about a quarrel between some people outside a CNG station.

“The PCR van immediately reached the spot. Kumar tried to pacify the two youths but they started misbehaving with him and beat him up. When Kheladi tried to intervene and attempted to make a police call, the youths snatched his wireless sent and damaged it,” an officer said.
