In an attempt at payback, a cook tried to burgle the house of an man, who had rejected his job application twice. The man, Maneck Tandon, is a self employed architect, in Greater Kailash in south Delhi.
The cook, who was employed at an adjacent house to the victims, sneaked into his house, stole a costly, foreign-made mobile phone and some dollars to teach the architect a lesson.
However, luck deceived him as Tandon and his family caught him red-handed. The cook, identified as Ajay Das, is now cooling his heels in jail.
According to the police, the incident took place late on Sunday night when Tandon was out with his family members. A senior police officer said that the matter came to their notice at around midnight after they received a PCR call regarding a thief being caught.
“A police team reached the spot and learnt that the family members had caught a cook — working in the neighbourhood — trying to commit burglary at their house. A foreign-made mobile phone and $101 were recovered from his possession,” said the senior officer adding that a case of burglary had been registered at the Greater Kailash police station and Das arrested.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Tandon admitted that Das had applied for a job.
“Since he was working at our neighbour’s house, there was no point of hiring him and straining our relationship with the neighbour,” said Tandon, adding that police verification of Das had not been done.
In another incident, unidentified burglars struck at the residence of a retired director general (DG) of custom and excise located on high-security Tilak Marg and decamped with a Sai Baba statue and some other items.
The incident took place on Monday afternoon at the Bapa Nagar residence of Kailash Nayyar, a retired DG. The stolen items were kept inside an almirah in the corridor of the house.
A case of burglary has been registered at Tilak Marg police station.
The police suspect the role of an insider behind the incident. They are scrutinising the footage of CCTVs installed at the entry–exit gate on the corridor.
