A 23-year-old Delhi Police constable, who had recently remarried and was 'mentally disturbed' for the last few days, allegedly shot himself outside a businessman's west Delhi residence on Thursday night, police said.
Police said constable Pankaj Kumar was posted as a personal security officer (PSO) at the residence of a local businessman at Mianwali Nagar when the incident took place around 10:30 pm.
"He was posted at the residence of Vikram Arora, who is a witness in a murder case, and used his own service revolver to kill himself. No suicide note was recovered from his possession," said a senior police officer investigating the incident.
Kumar, who had joined the force in 2010, had been stressed and 'disturbed' ever since he left his first wife and married another woman less than a week ago, police said.
"The businessman rushed him to a neighbouring private hospital after he found Pankaj lying in a pool of blood in a room outside his residence," the officer said. "A post mortem examination has been conducted and his body was handed over to his family today. Though mental agony, which he was undergoing for the past week, is the most probable cause of his death, we are investigating the case from all possible and plausible angles," the officer added.
