A 45-year-old head constable posted in the security wing outside Union minister Uma Bharti’s house on Akbar Road allegedly shot himself in the head using his service revolver on Sunday night.
Brij Pal was rushed to the RML hospital and was admitted for treatment. He succumbed to his injuries. An inquiry has been initiated.
According to the police, Pal, was sitting inside his Swift Dzire car and speaking to his brother on the phone. Soon after he disconnected the call, he took out his pistol and shot himself in the right temple.
Hearing the gunshot, other security personnel in the area rushed to the spot to find Pal lying in a pool of blood. The minister was reportedly inside her home when the incident happened.
During investigation, the police found out that Pal was unhappy with his posting in the security wing. He alleged that Pal favoured people and helped them acquire land.
“We were told that Pal had frequent fights with his wife. We have recorded the statements of his family members and have initiated an inquiry into the matter. No suicide note was found from the spot,” a senior police officer said.
Pal is survived by three children and wife. One of his sons is pursuing MBBS, the other studying in class 8 and his daughter is doing an MBA.
