The police are still clueless regarding the motive behind the murder of a 65-year-old woman at her Greater Kailash-1 house on Friday. The woman, Jogesh, was found smothered to death under mysterious circumstances.

Though the police suspect the involvement of someone known to the deceased, they have not been able to establish the identity of the culprit.

The police are investigating the case from property dispute angle too after it was learnt that the victim’s family had some property-related issues with their close relatives.

The house where Jogesh lived with her husband, Ajit Singh, nephew Yuvraj and a niece belonged to her brother-in-law, Shamsher Singh, who had passed away a few years ago, police sources said.

“The victim’s family has a dispute on this property with their close relatives. We are questioning some of their relatives,” said a senior police officer, requesting not to be named.

Additional deputy commissioner of police Meghna Yadav said the police are investigating the matter from all angles.

“The victim’s preliminary post-mortem report states she died of suffocation,” Yadav added.

Five teams of south-east district police led by additional commissioner of police, Ajay Chaudhary, have been constituted to look into the matter.

On Saturday, more than 20 persons, including those who had access to the victim’s house and labourers working in the locality, were asked to join the investigation process at the Greater Kailash police station.

Their statements were recorded and photographs were also taken, the source said.
