Police have arrested two men five days after a youth was murdered and his brother roughed up in Mangolpuri's Y Block.

The arrested duo were upset apparently because they had not been invited to the wedding of the injured youth.

Salman, 20, and Manjar Alam, 18, were arrested by a team from the Mangolpuri police station for the alleged murder of their neighbour, 30-year-old Mohammad Shakir, and the injury inflicted on his brother, Mohammad Asif.

The brothers were stabbed by the accused on Monday at Mangolpuri's Y Block, the police said.

DCP (outer) BS Jaiswal said the duo were upset as they had not been invited to Asif's wedding earlier this month.

"We received a call at the control room reporting that two men had been stabbed in Y Block. When a team reached the spot, they were told that Shakir and Asif had been taken to the nearby Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital," Jaiswal said.

The brothers had received deep wounds. Shakir was stabbed on his right shoulder and abdomen, while his 24-year-old brother was stabbed on his shoulder.

Asif told the police that he and Shakir were returning home after closing their garment shop in Mangolpuri when Salman, Javed, their two friends Samar and Manjar, and a woman named Zahida Begum started quarrelling with them. The argument soon turned violent after which the brothers were stabbed.

"After Zahida instigated them, Samar, Manjar and Javed caught the brothers and Salman attacked with a knife. Later, the attackers managed to flee," Jaiswal added. To apprehend the accused, three teams were formed and regular raids were conducted in Mangolpuri and nearby areas in Uttar Pradesh.
