The special investigation team (SIT) of Delhi police on Thursday questioned the AIIMS panel of doctors who prepared Sunanda Pushkar’s autopsy report.

Sources claim the police are set to question the forensic team and the crew of the Air India flight onboard which Pushkar and Shashi Tharoor allegedly fought before their arrival in Delhi on January 15 last year.

Delhi police commissioner BS Bassi told HT that more people, including Congress leader and Pushkar’s husband Shashi Tharoor, are likely to be questioned.

“Officials have questioned several people and the remaining will be questioned in the coming days,” said Bassi. While the police chief remained tight-lipped about the total number of people questioned so far, sources close to him claimed they are likely to call senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy for more insight in the case.

Bassi said the “SIT’s investigation was in full swing.” His statement came hours after Union minister Rajnath Singh claimed “the Delhi police were under no political pressure in the death probe of Sunanda Pushkar.”

The SIT questioned two of Tharoor’s friends, a hotel official and a former personal security officer on Wednesday. Senior police officials claimed Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar may be sent a questionnaire for a chronological insight of events leading to Pushkar’s death.

Tharoor’s domestic help Narayan Singh said in a recorded statement that on January 15, 2014, when Sunanda was unwell he left without saying anything, which agitated her. A copy of the statement is with HT, “Madam gusse se boli ki sahib ko chhodungi nahi, unhone Mehr ko mere pichle pati ke bare mein sab bata diya hai.”

Pushkar was found dead in The Leela on January 17, 2014, a day after her spat with Tarar on micro-blogging website Twitter over her alleged affair with Tharoor.

Senior police officials privy to the investigation told HT that the IPL angle has not been ruled out.

Speaking to a news channel, Amar Singh, former member of parliament, claimed that Pushkar, days before her death, broke down in front of him and claimed that she wanted to come clean on the entire IPL controversy.
