To save visitors from pickpockets at India's oldest and largest trade promotion fair, the Delhi Police have identified more than a dozen habitual offenders.

To create awareness among police personnel and the visitors, photographs of habitual offenders will be pasted inside the venue and also be distributed among the deployed security personnel to stop them from entering the fair.

Photographs will also be distributed among the officers posted at the Pragati Maidan Metro stations. "Over one lakh people come to Pragati Maidan during trade fair every day. Every year, we receive a large number of complaints of pick-pocketing. Last year, nearly 20 FIRs were registered and this time we are trying to prevent such cases," a police officer said.

The Delhi Police will take over Pragati Maidan on November 10, four days before the fair starts.

"The posters of pickpockets have been prepared and they will be placed at the venue. We appeal the visitors to inform the police as soon as they see any of the listed offenders at the trade fair," the officer added.

The Delhi Police have asked the trade fair authority to install more CCTV cameras at strategic locations. To ensure the safety of visitors, the police have asked India Trade Promotion Organisation to install cargo scanner at the gates.

"Adequate anti-sabotage and anti-terrorist measures are being implemented at parking lots, entry gates and the pavilions. There will be tight security at the venue and cops will be deployed in uniform as well as in plain clothes," he said.
