The Delhi Police have asked DIAL to build a temporary assistance booth outside Terminal 3, as the fate of a police station outside the integrated terminal is yet to be decided.
Hapless passengers, in the absence of a complaint centre outside the terminal, have to either enter the terminal or place a PCR call to get their grievances addressed.
RA Sanjeev, DCP (airport), said the police are in talks with Delhi International Airport Limited to construct a police station outside T3. "Until then, we have asked DIAL to construct a police booth near the prepaid taxi counter. To help passengers in need, we have placed our men outside the terminal round the clock," he said.
A DIAL spokesperson said the facility "should be ready within the next few weeks".
Even the control room of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) — responsible for security at the airports across the country — is inside the terminal. So passengers have to buy an R80 entry ticket or visit the police station outside Terminal 2 (T2).
"There is no direct link road to T2 from T3 and only those who are aware of the surroundings can reach the police station easily. Generally, our men escort the complainant to the police station," said a senior police officer.
"The passengers do not know where to place complaint, and our men posted at the gates are not authorised to take complaints," said a CISF official.
According to sources, the police station project is awaiting approval from the home ministry. "The decision on who will construct the police station has not been taken yet, which is delaying the process. Either CPWD or DIAL will build it," said a senior police officer.
