A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor from Burari allegedly stopped an MCD vehicle carrying cattle and released two cows belonging to him.
Officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had impounded 10 cows from illegal dairies during a special drive.
The cattle transportation vehicle was near Timarpur when the councillor allegedly stopped the MCD vehicle.
According to the MCD officials, BJP councillor Gaurav Khari — along with his father and few of the associates — allegedly stopped the cattle carrying van near Timarpur and forcibly released two cows belonging to him.
“They stopped the vehicle and manhandled us and then released the cattle. This is not a first case of attack on us. We do not get adequate police cover and it has increased our problems,” said an MCD official.
The MCD has filed an FIR against Khari and his associates at the Timarpur Police Station. However, Khari has refuted all the allegations.
“I do not know anything about it. I just told the MCD workers that they could not impound cattle from rural areas. These are baseless allegations against me. I did not free any cattle,” Khari said.
On Friday dairy owners in Pitampura attacked an MCD team. Their repeated requests for a battalion specifically for their protection during the drive have been denied till now.
There are now talks of the civic agencies getting two battalions of Meghalaya reserved police for this purpose but all this is still at a preliminary level.
