It took years for the Civic Centre to be constructed. But now, with councillors ignoring guidelines and fighting over space, space is being re-allocated to accomodate everybody.

The last commissioner of unified MCD, KS Mehra, had instructed that the top brass of deliberative wing, housed in Block A, be given rooms on the third floor.

There were, however, discrepancies in the distribution and the leader of opposition of North and South Corporations were housed on the first floor.

According to the guidelines, the mayor, deputy mayor, leader of the house and leader of the opposition of South and North Corporation must be accommodated on the third floor.

The Congress opposition has alleged that guidelines are being openly flouted by the ruling BJP, which intends to change the offices to different floors.

A new controversy was sparked on Tuesday, when the leader of opposition of North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), Mukesh Goel, was told to vacate his room located on the first floor. At the NDMC meeting, Goel and other Congress leaders shouted slogans against the move and got the meeting adjourned.

On Wednesday, at the Standing Committee election, Farhad Suri, the leader of the house of South Delhi Municipal Corporation asked the BJP to settle the issues.
