Authorities in Ghaziabad have decided on a unique way to catch and curb those conducting illegal sex determination test — sting operation.
The district health department of Ghaziabad would arrange the necessary equipment required to conduct sting operations and a team of experts would be trained as decoy customers.
“We will get cameras and recorders. The sting operation would be done to get a concrete proof against erring ultrasound centres. The biggest hindrance now is getting proof to nail these people,” said Chief Medical Officer AK Dhawan.
The state authorities have passed the said orders in 10 sensitive districts including Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar which indicate low male-female ratio in adults and children as well. The adult male-female ratio for Ghaziabad stands at 1000:860 and 1000:848 for children.
Officials believe that ultrasound centres violating the sex-determination norms are the major hindrance in maintaining the sex ratio. As a result, the government has given a green signal to district authorities to go ahead with the sting operations.
Rajeev Kapoor, Director, National Rural Health Rural Mission, has given instructions to District Magistrate and CMO in this regard.
“The biggest help would be the participation of the people. We need more and more inputs from the people,” said Dhawan.
