The crime branch of the Delhi Police has arrested wanted criminal Ajay Mann, who was carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000 and was wanted in two murder cases.
Mann was arrested from near Mukarba Chowk flyover in outer Delhi on Friday.
During his interrogation, Mann told the police that he had taken a loan of Rs 7 lakh from his associate Deepak to buy an SUV.
Due to losses which he suffered in a property business, he could not repay the debt and his relations with Deepak and one Virender turned bitter.
"To settle the issue, he hatched a conspiracy to kill Deepak and Virender. On May 1, he had also attacked a traffic police personnel," RS Yadav, additional CP (crime) said.
He killed Virender on the same day when the latter was having dinner.
The accused was involved in several other cases too and the police station concerned has been informed about his arrest.
"On the day of the murder, Mann's associate Bhardwaj had stopped the vehicle in the middle of road in Alipur. When the traffic staff asked him to move, he manhandled and threatened them with a country-made pistol. They then went to Khera Kalan in outer Delhi. It was Bhardwaj who shot at and killed Virender with his country-made pistol and then fled from the spot," Yadav added.
