A day after Hindustan Times reported the impending arrest of two senior Customs officials for their alleged involvement in an assault case, the Customs and Excise Department said a probe into the matter had revealed that the incident had not occurred.

Senior customs officials claimed that the two superintendents mentioned in an FIR registered by the local police in the matter were cooperating with the investigation and an internal enquiry had revealed they were not in the wrong.

“One of the two officers, Virender, we found out soon after taking over the case had in fact intercepted the complainant moving around the building in a suspicious manner while noting down the number of his vehicle,” a senior customs official said.

“Being an officer of the enforcement wing of the Central Excise Commissionerate, he informed his counterpart in the building before the matter was brought to the notice of CISF personnel standing guard.
