The row over the timing of the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony was resolved on Saturday with the Group of Ministers (GoM) fixing a 7 pm start for the event. “The ceremony will start at 7 pm,” Shyam Benegal, a member of the creative group, said.
The creative group, which conceived the ceremony, had planned a 7.30 pm start as the laser show and pyrotechnics would require darkness for maximum effect.
The Games Organising Committee, however, told them that as per a deal with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the opening ceremony had to start at 5.30 pm. The creative group was livid as they were not informed beforehand and it upset all their plans since laser shows and pyrotechnics would look like a joke in daylight.
