Former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi's close aide Shekhar M Deorukhkar was on Saturday sent to Tihar Jail for a 14-day judicial custody due to his alleged role in the multi-crore overlays scam linked to the sporting event.

"It is submitted (by the CBI) that since the investigation is not yet complete, the accused may be remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. Shekhar M Deorukhkar is remanded to judicial custody till March 5," Special CBI judge OP Saini said.

Deorukhkar was arrested from Pune on February 11. He is the fifth person to be arrested in the scam in which nearly Rs 600 crore worth contracts relating to the Games' overlays have come under the scanner of various agencies.

The court also extended till March 5 the judicial custody of Binu Nanu, who is a the Managing Director of firms Meroform India Pvt Ltd and GL Events Pvt Ltd.

The overlays included supply of tents, marquees, pre-fabricated units, portable toilets, containers, security fences, furniture, LED boards, floor finishes, material handling equipment, gensets, cabling, UPS, air-conditioners, lighting, civil construction, exercise equipment and grandstands.

After Deorukhkar pleaded that he be allowed his spectacles and medicines inside the jail, the court directed the jail superintendent to consider his request as per the jail manual.
