There were around 15,000 visitors but it was Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor’s visit that resulted in a small mele of sorts at the annual trade fair in Pragati Maidan on Sunday.

Kapoor visited the 29th edition of the India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2009 as part of her endorsement deal with a herbal cosmetic producing company, on a day open only for business visitors.

The second day of the annual event in the capital saw around 15,000 people, a number tad more than earlier years.

“This (increased number) is possibly because impact of recession is weaning off,” India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) Senior General Manager (Public Relations) Safdar H Khan said.

The number of visitors both on Saturday and Sunday (approximately 15,000 each day) was a little beyond expectation of the organisers.

Another possible reason, Khan said, is because, this time round, business visitors are allowed the whole day as against the half-day last year.

The theme of this year’s fair is “Services” and Delhi is the partner state in the fortnight long event. The Delhi pavilion's theme is Commonwealth Games 2010 to be held in the capital next year.

After inaugurating the event of Saturday, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had said, “People from across the country would come and visit the pavilion. This is a great opportunity for us to make them aware about the sporting event.”
