It seems the Prasar Bharati has learnt from its mistakes. After putting up a bad show during Beijing Olympics, it plans to bid good-bye to Doodarshan’s (DD) production staff for the Commonwealth Games 2010. It has decided to woo top foreign sports experts for the grand event.
Prasar Bharati chief executive officer (CEO) B.S.Lalli told HT that the entire production work would be outsourced to foreign and Indian firms specialised in covering sporting events. “This includes foreign commentators,” he added.
The move is aimed at maintaining international quality production of sporting events during the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
The DD received flak from within and outside the government for poor production of Beijing Olympics.
The corporation will soon float global tenders for hiring top sports production houses to cover the India’s biggest ever sporting extravaganza. “They (the production houses) will produce but the management of show will be in our hands,” Lalli said.
The Finance ministry has given Rs 400 crore to the Information and Broadcasting ministry for television and radio coverage of the games.
“There are only 100 to 150 people in the world who expertise in sports production. We would be asking them to join us to make Commonwealth Games a commendable event,” Lalli said.
A considerable amount of the money will be spent on building an international media center and to buy equipment to telecast the signal on high definition digital quality. “The quality of the image would be twice as good as of the present analog signal,” said an official.
