Built in 1987, the parking facility in Mount Kailash area of East of Kailash is now turning into a serious health hazard for the area residents. Lying vacant for nearly three decades, the parking facility boasts of only sewage.
Sewage leaks out of the overflowing manholes in the covered parking lot, turning it into a breeding ground for diseases.
Even though the residents have written to the DDA several times to get the problem fixed, they haven’t received any response.
“The place stinks and the residential apartments are barely 15 feet away,” said Meeta Das Gupta, an area resident. A mini shopping centre was also built on the parking centre’s roof to cater to the needs of the residents.
The drainage from the shopping centre also flows into the parking facility.
“The facility’s drainage design is faulty. The drainage from the shopping centre also flows into the parking area,” said Sanjeev Dudeja, president, Kailash Towers Resident Association.
“We’ve written to the DDA several times asking them to improve the situation and hand the facility over to the residents. But they haven’t done anything,” said Dudeja.
“The sewage water from the manhole is due to a defect in the existing arrangements. The location of manholes inside the parking is wrong,” said Gupta.
“DDA should close the manholes and redesign the drainage infrastructure so that the discharge enters the municipal sewage system directly,” added Dudeja.
