If you have not managed to get a flat in the Delhi Development Authority’s (DDA) housing scheme, there’s still hope that you might own a house of your own in the capital. DDA is going to launch an even bigger housing scheme in 2016.

DDA is expected to offer more than 35,000 flats in its next housing scheme, which might be launched in mid or end of 2016. The flats would be mainly located in Rohini, Dwarka and Narela apart from Vasant Kunj, Sheikh Sarai, Defence Colony and Kalkaji.

Even while it wrapped up the draw for its biggest housing scheme ever on Tuesday, DDA has already started planning for the next housing scheme. DDA Vice Chairman Balvinder Kumar told Hindustan Times on Tuesday that the 2016 housing scheme is going to be even bigger than the latest one.

“At present 35,000 to 40,000 flats are in the pipeline, which will be ready by 2016 and would be offered in the proposed housing scheme,” said a senior DDA official who didn’t wish to be named. “The highest concentration of these flats are in Rohini, followed by Dwarka and Narela,” the official said.

“Most of these flats would be one bedroom type, meant for the economically weaker section (EWS) category. However, there would also a sizeable number of two bedroom and three bedroom flats on offer,” he said.

“Unlike the 2014 housing scheme, where 95 per cent flats where one bedroom type, the next scheme would be mixed with many more two and three bedroom flats,” Kumar had earlier told Hindustan Times.

The prices of the flats are expected to be 15-20 per cent higher than the flats offered in the 2014 housing scheme but would be much more lower than prevailing market rates.

Apart from Rohini, Dwarka and Narela, where DDA has large tracts of land in its possession, flats in smaller pockets would also come up in other parts of the city where the land development agency has scattered vacant land.

“We are trying to use a large portion of the vacant land available with us for development of housing. We are trying to find in which areas there is a scope for building flats,” the DDA official said.

DDA has vacant land available in areas such as Sheikh Sarai, Defence Colony, Vasant Kunj, Dakshinpuri, Sarita Vihar, Kohat Enclave, Burari and Nasirpur.
