Trailing the source of the Cobalt-60 that left seven people critically ill in the Mayapuri scrap market in west Delhi over the past one week, a team of Delhi Police on Thursday raided a godown at Ballabgarh in Haryana.

The raid followed information gathered by the police that Deepak Jain, the owner of the scrap shop where the Cobalt-60 was stored, had purchased it from another scrap dealer in Ballabgarh.

Experts and officials of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) also visited the factory and questioned Mohan Chowdhury, the godown owner.

It was Chowdhury who had sold the scrap to Jain, who lies in a critical state in a city hospital.

Meanwhile, the Delhi police officials who had visited the scrapyard in the past few days have been asked to submit their blood samples for tests as they might have faced mild exposure to the radiation.

More than 50 policemen have been visiting the area in and around the scrap yard in west Delhi to assist the experts and manage the locals.
